Come learn the ropes of the highest-performance small sailboats on the water today!!!
AustinCats.net will be hosting our 2nd annual Catamaran Test Sail Day on Sunday May 22nd, 2011 from 1 to 5 PM at the Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis. This year, we'll be doing it in conjunction with the Austin Yacht Club Open House. So if high-speed, adrenaline-filled sailing isn't your thing, you'll have the opportunity to try out some other, more tame boats. You know, the kind where you can hold a beer while still steering the boat.
Unlike last year, there is no registration, so we can't guarantee that there won't be a line, but we'll do our best to get you out on the water as quickly as possible. What to expect: These boats are fast, and you're close to the water when sailing them, so be prepared to get wet! You could even capsize! Make sure that you wear some kind of bathing suit, wet gear, etc. You'll also have to do some of the work to sail the boat, including pulling on ropes, so bring cycling, weight lifting, gardening, or any other kind leather glove. It's time again for our annual Hill Country Regatta! This year promises to be better than ever with a strong, local F18 class which continues to grow, and an increasing interest in beach catamarans from both monohull and non-sailors alike!
Early bird registration is as low as $30 for single-handed boats, and $45 for double-handed, which not only promises some great racing, but also great company and food.

AustinCats.net members meet at 7 PM on the first Tuesday of each month for beers and dinner at a local watering hole. We discuss and plan future events, share sailing stories, and brainstorm ideas on expanding our catamaran sailing community. If you're new to the sport, this is a great way to quickly pick up information and meet all kinds of experienced sailors. Don't hesitate to come and join us - anyone is welcome! |

AustinCats & 2WireSailing (our local AHPC Dealer) will hold an F18 clinic at AYC on Saturday January 8, 2011.
We will be working on boat handling, starts and mark roundings.
John Tomko will be running the clinic and he will be shooting video on the water for review during dinner and drinks at the clubhouse.
Philippe Better has graciously agreed to organize the meal, and I will organize the rum.
We are planning to have grilled ribeyes and all the rum anyone could drink (Well, maybe anyone but Beuerlein)
We are looking for volunteers to run chase boats and to grill steaks.
The expected cost will be less than $20 per person.
We will make a go/no-go weather decision on Friday January 7 at noon the announcement will be made on the austi...@googlegroups.com mailing list.
We have three F18s committed already:
Philippe on his Tiger
Luke & Laura on their Infusion
Your Commodore on his C2
Please let me know if you would like to participate or volunteer.
Volunteers eat and drink free, but we need a head count so we know how much food to buy. I already know how much rum to buy (as much as I can!).

Please bring a VHF Radio that you can take on your boat. It will help to coordinate while we are on the water.
0900 - 1000 Rigging (with Tomko walking around offering suggestions / answering questions)
1000 - 1400 On the water. Practice Starts, Tacks, Mark Roundings with Tomko coaching from Ryan's jet boat. (We may need a video camera).
1400 - 1500 Rig down.
1500 - 1700 Go over videos, have drinks, offer tips, chalk talk?
1700 - 1830 Dinner (more drinks of course)
